How to Identify a Dell EMC PM1643 7.68TB SAS SSD

A Dell EMC label, a Samsung manufacturer model and a PM1643 family name describe different layers of the same photographed drive. Preserve every identifier and the complete SAS storage path before treating another 7.68TB SSD as a replacement candidate.

Evidence scope

Selected first-party images document representative OEM and manufacturer labels. Final model, part number, availability, condition, health evidence, firmware, sector format, carrier, platform compatibility, warranty, packing and quotation remain order-specific.

Identifier hierarchy

Dell EMC and Samsung fields to retain

Use the complete photographed label as an identification starting point, then attach platform and unit-specific evidence to the RFQ.

Dell EMC and Samsung fields to retain
Comparison pointPhotographed exampleRFQ review
OEM identifierEMC P/N 118000658Confirm the required Dell EMC part
Manufacturer identifierMZILT7T6HMLA-000C9 / MZ-ILT7T6ARetain the complete Samsung string

The table separates photographed label fields from procurement checks. It does not confirm current stock, quoted-unit condition, health, firmware, sector format, compatibility or warranty.

01

Separate OEM and manufacturer identifiers

The photographed example shows Dell EMC branding, EMC P/N 118000658, Samsung P/N MZILT7T6HMLA-000C9 and model MZ-ILT7T6A. Keep those fields on one RFQ line. Removing the OEM part number or shortening the Samsung string to PM1643 can hide a firmware, qualification or service-context difference.

  • EMC P/N 118000658
  • Samsung P/N MZILT7T6HMLA-000C9
  • Model MZ-ILT7T6A
  • PM1643 family context

02

Confirm the complete SAS path

Samsung documents PM1643 as a 12 Gb/s SAS SSD family. A valid replacement review still needs the storage array or server model, controller or HBA, backplane, bay, carrier and cable path. The same 2.5-inch form and 7.68TB capacity do not establish support for another SAS SSD or a SATA/NVMe alternative.

  • SAS controller or HBA
  • Backplane and bay
  • Carrier and cable path
  • Server or storage model

03

Treat health evidence as unit-specific

A catalog label establishes identification context, not the current health of a quoted unit. Request the exact unit serial or other agreed identifier with the available SAS diagnostic output, power-on data, error history and requested test scope. A screenshot from one drive cannot be transferred to a different unit or batch.

  • Quoted-unit identity
  • Available SAS diagnostics
  • Power-on and error data
  • Unit or sample scope

04

Review firmware and OEM qualification

Record the installed firmware, the required Dell EMC firmware or qualification context and the controller firmware before approval. Do not flash a generic manufacturer image or assume a family-level firmware is acceptable without the relevant platform procedure and a reviewed rollback or recovery plan.

  • Installed drive firmware
  • OEM firmware requirement
  • Controller firmware
  • Approved change procedure

05

Send a replacement-ready RFQ

Include the installed and requested identifiers, quantity, target condition, platform, controller, bay, carrier, firmware requirement, destination and requested evidence. Final availability, condition, test scope, packing and quotation are confirmed per order.

  • Installed and requested part numbers
  • Quantity and condition
  • Platform and firmware
  • Destination and evidence scope

Practical proof behind the guide

These first-party images document representative product, inspection, packing, shipping, tracking or policy evidence, as applicable to this guide. Final order evidence is confirmed separately.
