NetApp X342A-R6 vs X343A-R6: Do Not Match by Carrier Alone

X342A-R6 and X343A-R6 are separately identified NetApp drive parts. The photographed labels show different capacities and base-drive models, so a replacement review must use the exact NetApp part, shelf, ONTAP and firmware context.

Evidence scope

Selected first-party images document representative OEM and manufacturer labels. Final model, part number, availability, condition, health evidence, firmware, sector format, carrier, platform compatibility, warranty, packing and quotation remain order-specific.

Use the table to keep the two photographed parts separate before platform qualification.

The table separates photographed label fields from procurement checks. It does not confirm current stock, quoted-unit condition, health, firmware, sector format, compatibility or warranty.

01

Keep the NetApp part number exact

The photographed X342A-R6 label identifies a 1.2TB 10K 12Gb SAS part, while X343A-R6 identifies a 1.8TB 10K 12Gb SAS part. Similar carriers and interface do not make these two part numbers interchangeable or define a supported mixed-drive plan.

  • X342A-R6
  • X343A-R6
  • 1.2TB versus 1.8TB
  • 10K 12Gb SAS context

02

Retain the base-drive label

The X342A-R6 example shows an HGST HUC101812CS4204 base drive, and the X343A-R6 example shows a Toshiba AL14SEB18EQ base drive. Those manufacturer strings are useful identification evidence, but the NetApp part and qualification context remain the controlling procurement inputs for a NetApp replacement request.

  • HUC101812CS4204 example
  • AL14SEB18EQ example
  • NetApp part remains explicit
  • No base-model substitution assumption

03

Check shelf and ONTAP support

Provide the controller model, ONTAP release, disk shelf model and shelf firmware. NetApp documentation references DS224C in this hardware path, but the supported-drive decision should be checked against the applicable Hardware Universe or support guidance for the buyer's exact environment.

  • Controller model
  • ONTAP release
  • Shelf model and firmware
  • Hardware Universe review

04

Treat firmware as a qualified field

NetApp's public knowledge base lists X342A-R6 and X343A-R6 in a drive-firmware context. That reference is not a general instruction to flash every drive. Record the installed disk firmware and consult the applicable NetApp procedure or support path before any update or replacement action.

  • Installed disk firmware
  • Qualified firmware target
  • Applicable NetApp procedure
  • Recovery and rollback context

05

Request a NetApp-specific quotation

Send the installed NetApp part, base-drive label, quantity, shelf, controller, ONTAP version, disk firmware, sector format, carrier requirement, target condition, destination and requested evidence. Final availability, condition, test scope, packing and quotation are confirmed per order.

  • NetApp and base-drive labels
  • Shelf, controller and ONTAP
  • Firmware and format
  • Quantity, condition and destination

Practical proof behind the guide

These first-party images document representative product, inspection, packing, shipping, tracking or policy evidence, as applicable to this guide. Final order evidence is confirmed separately.

First-party NetApp X342A-R6 label reference. The photographed base drive and carrier do not establish current firmware qualification or support for another shelf or ONTAP environment.
NetApp X343A-R6 1.8TB 12Gb SAS drive label on a Toshiba AL14SEB18EQ drive
First-party NetApp X343A-R6 and Toshiba AL14SEB18EQ label reference. Final shelf support, firmware qualification, sector format, carrier and condition remain request-specific.
