RAID Controller Cache and Battery Procurement Checklist

A cache-protection component is part of an exact controller and platform assembly. Request the controller, cache design, battery or energy-pack part number, cable and carrier together, and define the evidence required for the quoted unit instead of assuming that a visually similar module is interchangeable.

Decision summary

Identify the controller first, then match the documented cache-protection design, battery or energy-pack part number, cable, carrier, firmware and server platform. SECTION 02

Separate cache policy from the protection component

Record the required controller behavior and the documented protection hardware as separate fields. Dell describes non-volatile cache preservation for covered PERC controllers, but the applicable cache behavior and hardware must be checked against the exact controller rather than generalized across families.

Capture readable labels for the controller and protection component, plus the interconnect cable, mounting carrier and server model.
